Small Sided Games
Introduction of small-sided Games in 2008
2008 will be a pioneering year in Australian football history as small-sided games are introduced across the board at local level. Kempsey Hornets will be one of many clubs to adopt the changes being brought in by Football Federation Australia at junior level.
Small-sided games are a modified form of 11-a-side football designed to meet the different developmental needs of players under 12. This is to encourage the players to have more time with the ball and to develop confidence as a player.
In 2008 the under 6 and 7 age groups will be introduced to the new playing format.
In following years, there is just the natural progression of age groups until the completion of 2012 when all required age groups (Under 12 and below) will be playing under the new format.
The new playing format focuses on skill development through fun, a theme that the Kempsey Hornets have been implementing for several years.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Players aged 6 years to 11 years play on Saturday mornings throughout the Kempsey Shire and these age groups are our Small Sided Games Teams, who play non-competitive matches. No results from matches are recorded in these age groups thus enabling the children to have FUN and learn the skills of the game without pressure.
Teams play one match per weekend. Game Draws detailing weekly match times and locations are handed out to all players/parents at the beginning of the season.
